Skip the multi-week colonization wait. Each bag is fully colonized Psilocybe natalensis mycelium grown through sterilized whole oat grain, ready to use as spawn the moment it arrives.
Natalensis is known for spreading through grain quickly and tolerating slightly warmer, more humid conditions than many other Psilocybe species, which makes it a forgiving strain to build a grow around. This bag is the finished spawn stage. Mycelium has already fully colonized the oats, so there is no injection, no incubation period, and no risk of a stalled or contaminated inoculation on your end.
What’s Included
- 1 lb fully colonized Psilocybe natalensis grain spawn (whole oats)
- Unicorn grow bag with 3T filter patch
How to Use It
Break up the grain by shaking or kneading the bag to separate the colonized kernels, then mix it directly into sterilized bulk substrate at roughly one part spawn to two to four parts substrate. You can also use a portion of this bag to inoculate additional grain bags and multiply your spawn before moving to bulk. Because the mycelium is already established, colonization of bulk substrate typically finishes faster than starting from a liquid culture injection, often within 1 to 2 weeks under warm, consistent conditions (75 to 81°F / 24 to 27°C works well for natalensis).
Whole oats are used as the base for the same reasons they work at the injection stage: a strong surface-area-to-nutrition ratio, good moisture retention without waterlogging, and reliable, even colonization.
Compatible With
This spawn works with any sterilized bulk substrate, including coco coir/vermiculite mixes, manure-based substrates, or additional sterilized grain, for both monotub and bag-style bulk grows. Since it is already fully colonized, it is not meant to be re-inoculated with liquid culture or spores. Treat it as your spawn source, not a substrate awaiting injection.
Storage
Because this bag contains living, actively colonized mycelium rather than dormant sterile grain, it does not keep as long as an uninoculated bag. Use it within 1 to 2 weeks of receiving it for best results. If you need to pause, refrigeration will slow the mycelium down significantly. Let the bag come to room temperature for a few hours before mixing it into substrate.
